The Doing Business report from the World Bank Group has ranked New Zealand as the easiest to do business out of 190 countries. New Zealand has been in the top three since 2010.

The report compares economies with one another with respect to regulatory best practice based on the following topics:

  • Dealing with construction permits
  • Getting electricity
  • Registering property
  • Getting credit
  • Protecting minority investors
  • Paying taxes
  • Trading across borders
  • Enforcing contracts
  • Resolving insolvency

When starting a business, for example, New Zealand has the smallest number of procedures required (1) and the shortest time to fulfill them (0.5 days).
